| 留学生论文写作中，Run-on Sentence 和Comma Splice 是写作时常见的两种错误;但很多时候导师即使指出该句属于该类错误，很多同学也不理解他们的意思，也不知道该如何处理。本文（111留学网https://www.111liuxue.com）将带同学们了解这两类语法错误，并为大家提供这两种错误的解决办法，同学们可以收藏码住~
先看三个错误例子：
Example of a run-on sentence:
× The results of the study were inconclusive, more research needs to be done on the topic.
以上分别是两个独立的句子，但是两个句子间却没有任何的衔接方式(衔接词，标点符号等)隔开，这属于经典 run-on sentence。
Example of a comma splice:
× Participants could leave the study at any time, they needed to indicate their preference.
以上分别是两个独立的句子，虽然有了逗号隔开，但依旧是错误的，这属于run-on sentence的一种：comma splice。
× Example of a longer run-on sentence:
Toni Morrison is a professor at Princeton University, she wrote the novel The Bluest Eye.
Revision (修订版)
1. 用一个句号隔开：
√ The results of the study were inconclusive. More research needs to be done on the topic.
√ Participants could leave the study at any time. They needed to indicate their preference.
2. 用分号隔开
√ The results of the study were inconclusive; more research needs to be done on the topic.
√ Participants could leave the study at any time; they needed to indicate their preference.
3. 用一个逗号加一个并列连接词 (e.g. and, but, or ...)
√ The results of the study were inconclusive, and more research needs to be done on the topic.
√ Participants could leave the study at any time, and they needed to indicate their preference.
4. 如果两句间存在逻辑关系(因果，转折，对比等) 的话，把其中一个句子加上从属连词 (e.g. because, unless, although ...) 使其成为一个从句，与另外一个句子共同构成并列句。
√ The results of the study were inconclusive, so more research needs to be done on the topic.
注意：therefore 尽管是因此的意思，但由于其是副词，不像because, so 等有连词的词性;因此并不能使用逗号与前句相连。正确的做法有两种：
A. 分号隔开
√ The results of the study were inconclusive; therefore more research needs to be done on the topic.
B. 句号隔开
√ The results of the study were inconclusive. Therefore, more research needs to be done on the topic.
5. 如果你认为一个句子的信息的重要性低于另外一个句子的话，可以将其写成从句(同位语，定语)
√ Toni Morrison, a professor at Princeton University, wrote The Bluest Eye. (责任编辑：admin) |
